Reba

By Becky Holland

Meet Reba, a beloved dog who has been a steady and comforting presence in Katie Churchwell’s life for years.

Churchwell has had Reba since her high school days, and over time, the loyal pup has witnessed and shared in life’s many milestones — from heartbreak and late-night study sessions to marriage, motherhood, and moments of grief and joy.

“She’s truly been through everything with me,” Churchwell said. “High school, heartbreak, dating, marriage, late-night study sessions, job changes, grief, and the birth of my children — she’s been the best dog, always there for me.”

These days, Reba enjoys a slower pace of life, spending much of her time resting and soaking up affection from her family.

“She doesn’t really play with toys now and spends most of her days sleeping, but she loves a good back and belly rub,” Churchwell said.

Reba still has a bit of playful spirit, especially when it comes to the outdoors.

“She still has enough spunk to go outside and bark at squirrels, bunnies and birds,” Churchwell added.

When it comes to treats, Reba has her favorites — with a few limits in place for her health.

“She loves Pupperoni treats, but we limit table food because she’s had pancreatic issues before,” Churchwell said. “That doesn’t stop her from sneaking bites of my boys’ snacks — she’s a little vacuum for crumbs. I’ve called her our little Hoover before.”

Through every stage of life, Reba has remained a constant source of love and comfort.

“I know you didn’t ask for all of that, but she really has been and still is the best dog,” Churchwell said. “I cherish every minute I have with her.”

Pets of the Week are typically awarded a prize, but Reba — along with her owner — chose to pay it forward. Instead of keeping her prize, Reba’s family asked that it be donated to dogs still waiting for their forever homes. In her honor, a donation of treats will be given to a local animal rescue.

We’re so excited to kick off Pet of the Week with such a sweet and special pup!

🎾 Pets featured in Pet of the Week will receive a small toy.
