Shanna Evans is a longtime member of the Bleckley County Board of Education, currently serving her eighth year representing District 5 and her third year as Chairman.
A graduate of Bleckley County High School, she has lived in District 5 for more than 20 years.
Evans holds a Master’s Degree in Occupational Therapy and works with geriatric patients in the area. She and her family are active in their church and the community. Her husband is also a graduate of Bleckley County Schools, and their children currently attend school in the system.
During her time on the Board of Education, Evans has been part of several accomplishments, including the district being named Governance Team of the Year in 2021 and receiving the Exemplary Board Award. She has also supported efforts to enhance school safety, including working with the Bleckley County Sheriff’s Department to place School Resource Officers on every campus.
Evans said she is committed to supporting teachers and staff, noting efforts such as raises and bonuses aimed at retention. She also emphasizes the importance of maintaining a strong school system while being mindful of taxpayers, supporting a balanced budget and a lower millage rate.
Faith and community values are important to Evans, and she points to events such as the annual Prayer Walk as part of the culture of Bleckley County Schools.
Why is she running? Evans said she is passionate about continuing to serve the students, teachers, and families of Bleckley County and helping ensure the school system remains strong for future generations.
