Janie Cahill, a government contract administrator and Cochran resident of 20 years, is running for the District 4 seat on the Bleckley County Board of Education. She and her husband have two children and chose to make Cochran their home for its rural setting and strong school system.
Cahill holds a bachelor’s degree in behavioral health with an emphasis on childhood and adolescent disorders, as well as a master’s degree in leadership. She also earned a teaching certificate with a reading endorsement through the Georgia TAPP program, valid through 2029. She has 14 years of experience working in the education field.
As a former teacher and parent, Cahill said she believes having an educator on the board brings a valuable and different perspective. She is passionate about doing what is best for children and understands both sides of the education system.
Cahill said her decision to run is centered on students and support for educators.
“Students should always come first, teachers deserve support, and trust and open communication build strong schools,” she said.
She added that the advice she would give her younger self is simple: “You can do hard things. Life isn’t always easy, but if you put your mind to it, you can do hard things.”
