I’ve always loved the news. Every Wednesday afternoon, when the weekly paper arrived at noon, I’d sit down and read every story about our community—who was visiting, what events were coming up, and what local issues mattered. Those afternoons sparked something in me, and eventually, I started my own journey in journalism. I didn’t just consume the news anymore—I got to participate in how it was shared and experienced by others.
Over the years, I’ve noticed that how we experience the news really shapes how we remember it. Sometimes, I’ll listen to a podcast while driving or watch a short news clip online, and it gives me the story quickly—but it’s different than reading. Reading lets me pause, think, and really digest what’s happening in our community. Watching or listening brings emotion and immediacy, but reading builds understanding.
For me, it’s not a matter of one being better than the other—it’s about balance. Reading, listening, and watching all have their place. But I’ll always cherish those quiet Wednesday afternoons with a paper in hand—the place where my love for local news first took root.
What I dream for The Ledger is simple: Our Community, Our News. Honest, unbiased sharing of the stories that make Cochran and Bleckley County what they are. I picked March 18 out of the sky as my launch date—though March 15 was the original plan—so I could follow a traditional weekly posting schedule on Wednesdays at noon. Right now, I’m conducting interviews and putting stories together—stories I hope you will read, learn from, and enjoy.
